Hirano is a colony world that is part of the Republic of Manhattan, located in the Uemachi-system, in the Kansai Sector.
The planet is known for its intense windstorms that plague its surface, leading to few tall plants.
Formerly a member of the Earth Federation, the planet seceeded early on during the Sol Gamma Wave in 2601. It was later annexed by the Republic in 2743 during the Annexation of the Western Territories, the annexation of 27 independent colony worlds.
The colony was founded by a Capecchi group of settlers, the Belousov.

The planet is named for Hirano-ku, largest of 24 wards which make up the Japanese city of Osaka, and is located in the southeast of the city.
